FUTAMI AMI

The only anime looking doll I liked are Licca and Jenny  of Takara Tomy, I wasn’t even familiar with any character except Sailor Moon back then.  So when I found a Futami Ami in one of my thrift store hopping, it didn’t take long, I put her up on sale.

I found her MIB (Mint In Box) although the box is not in good condition, the doll is new, sealed, all accessories complete, no damage.  It took less than a week, she got sold.  Only to find out later she was worth more than my tag price!  My brother told me I should have consulted and showed him first when I mentioned its Revoltech!

I didn’t even bother to take her out of her sealed plastic, I just checked for some broken parts which I saw none, she’s in goody goody condition.  She’s one of those dolls I regret selling.

Whenever I put up an item for sale, I don’t jack up the price too much when it came from a thrift store, MIB or not, I always remember what my mother used to tell me, don’t tag too high so you can have loyal buyers (mom I’m not a full time seller, but I take your word for it) 😉

MY FAVORITE TAKARA DOLL: JENNY (PART 2)

I don’t have much info on Jenny, all I know is that she used to be Takara Barbie a joint project between Takara & Mattel in 1981.  She doesn’t even have a last name like Licca Chan, but I maybe wrong.  So I read she was fashioned after a popular model in Japan during the 1970’s named Agnes Lam.  Anyway, because of Jenny (my doll) I started to appreciate other dolls with articulated features. I adore her anime look, sweet and innocent.  My sister asked, why does Jenny looked sad at certain angles, and happy in another?

DSC03057She’s got 14 points of articulation, good condition, a bit loose in the bikini area, but she can very well stand on her own without the need for a doll stand.

Most of the doll clothes I have are fitted for Barbie and Licca Chan, so I have not really experimented on trying everything on, just chose these dress.

I read somewhere that you can identify Takara dolls by the dots on their eyes, where the eyelashes are positioned, and by the color of their eye shadow.  But at this moment, I have not fully researched on that.  I’ll just enjoy taking pics of her for now!

MY FAVORITE TAKARA DOLL: JENNY!

This is a long overdue post.  Last year I mentioned about a Lucky Charm which is actually a doll named Jenny.  She is my 2nd thrift store doll.  Ever since I found her, a lucky streak befell upon moi and I can’t believe it!  Nope, it’s not winning any lottery or marrying Keanu Reeves 😉 mind you, but it’s finding good stuff like dolls, accessories and dolly outfits!

Meet Jenny!

TAKARA JENNY DOLLWhen I found her, she was wearing a tattered generic Korean dress with her hair disheveled showing her scalp.  The pattern in which her hair was rooted has large gap in between, I don’t think its a factory defect, it’s just the way they made her.

I didn’t buy her right away, I was sort of disappointed when I took a close look.  Her limbs are thin and she’s like the female version of the G.I. Joe that my nephew collects with bendable parts.  I didn’t find her attractive due to that, I have gotten used to Barbie’s body structure.  I remember the saleslady tried to talked me into buying it saying she’s cute, blah, blah.. but I just shook my head and left.

A week later, as I was waiting for my ride, my eyes wondered off to that thrift store just across the street.  I can still see Jenny from behind the glass pane, pinned by stuff toys and baby dolls.  I don’t know, but I rushed inside and pull her out, took a second look, and finally bought her!  When I reached home, I checked her again for any damages, and underneath the worn out dress she had her original suit! Wow!

jenny lyingJenny is wearing a Black Jumpsuit with an ankle-length yellow wrap-around chiffon skirt (which my niece took home with her for Barb) and a pair of white earring studs.  Printed on her back – © Takara ’96 Made in China. Her suit is labeled with japanese characters similar to the other original Takara dress I saw online.

After cleaning, I kept her in my closet along with my Bratz, and there she stayed for a very long time.  I have began posting the other dolls, but kept skipping on Jenny because I was still trying to look for info about her.  At least this one in particular.  Takara Jenny has a lot of series and at first, they all looked the same.  I found out that this one belongs to the Super Model series.

Jenny BoxNOTE:  This picture of her box is taken from Google and does not belong to me, used only for reference and identification of my doll.

So now comes Jenny’s time to take the spotlight! Of course, the following belongs to moi!
